We custom design and build a wide variety of machines to fulfill our customers’ needs. Below is a list of our more popular machines we create. Let us know how we can help you!

Drawing Machines

Limited Slip (Cone Type) Drawing Machines

Filmtec cone type drawing machines offer low slip drawing for specialty wire manufacturers. Targeted for fine through heavy wire sizes, the units utilize a horizontal capstan arrangement for easy string-up.  Each unit is a complete system with an entrance accumulator, drawing machine and take-up. This drawing method is the most power efficient and is used for intermediate and heavy wire sizes.

Full Slip (Roll Type) Drawing Machines

Filmtec roll type drawing machines are designed for specialty wire in the fine and ultra-fine wire sizes.  The full slip feature allows flexibility in draw reduction and number of die passes. The units use a submersible roll system for added cooling and are provided with a payoff, accumulator, drawing machine and take-up. This system is typically used for fine and ultra-fine wire because of the higher power losses due to the increased slip.

Single Die Drawing Machines

For larger size wires, it is often beneficial to run single-draw passes. This system allows the drawing horsepower to be reduced and provides full flexibility in the die string-up. Two methods can be used: a straight through system with a take-up to spool the wire, and one using heavier wire to accumulate the wire on a bull block capstan. Both horizontal and vertical style draw capstans are available.

Tandem Drawing Machines

Tandem drawing machines, often used for heavy and intermediate wire sizes, consist of multiple, single die capstans arranged together in a single machine. These units operate in a limited slip manner with either the capstans gang driven or individually driven. This system reduces string-up labor and will require its horsepower to be designed to handle the full die string.

Take-up Machines

Multi-Line Take-up Machines

Multi-line take-ups are used to take up wire from a process line (i.e.: annealing and enameling lines).  These units often include common capstans and traverses where the line speeds and spool sizes can be grouped. Filmtec's multi-line take-ups offer a viable alternative to a high priced, fully independent system. The unit's dual S-type capstans pull multiple wire through the furnace and set the line speed.  Independent spindle drives take up the wire from the capstans. Brushless servomotor spindle drives give sensitive control of winding torque. Ten and twelve line units are typical, and the design allows easy alteration to customer's needs.

Single Line Take-up Machines

Rolling mill, drawing, and extruding processes generally utilize single line take-ups. Any take-up process handling strip and requiring precision spooling (layer winding) will also require individual take-ups.  Vertical spindle units for taper barrel spools are available.

Extruding Line Take-up Machines

Extruding take-ups usually operate in tandem with a large wire accumulator to accommodate spool changeovers. Filmtec dual station take-up units with automatic feed and cut assemblies reduce changeover time and reduce wire accumulation. Units are designed to handle a wide range of spools and wire sizes. Multiple take-up options are available.

Rectangular Wire Take-up Machines

Process lines handling rectangular wire require single line, independent take-ups. Rectangular wire take-ups feature traversing spool arrangements and precision traverses to provide layer wind quality spooling. The unit outlined below is designed for an enameling line and includes a 36” diameter capstan to pull the wire from the enameling oven.  The take-up spindle uses a torque take-up to wind the wire on to the spool. The take-up will handle from 20” to 30” diameter spools.

Respoolers

Fine Wire Bobbin Respoolers

Filmtec’s fine wire bobbin respooler was designed to provide wire manufacturers with a compact, inexpensive, high-quality spooling solution.

This respooler includes a variable speed spindle and uses a centerless spindle to eliminate spool runout. The unit features a traversing guide sheave, which minimizes the unit’s overall size. The take-up includes a drag brake payoff stand with dancer control of braking tension.

Fine Wire Upright Respoolers

Filmtec’s fine wire upright respooler was designed for maximum flexibility in the respooling process. This respooler incorporates a traversing spool system, which allows layer winding of ribbon wire. The unit uses cantilevered take-up and payoff spindles, enabling front loading of both spools. The winding tension utilizes a tension feedback system with load cell to control the payoff’s hysteresis brake.

Payoffs

Roll-In Payoffs

Filmtec’s roll-in payoffs offer a compact and flexible payoff unit, designed to handle spool diameters between 16” and 30”. This unit makes loading of heavy spools easy. A permanent magnetic brake with lever arm adjustment controls the dereeling tension. Torque is transmitted to the spool via gears.

Multi-Line Payoffs

Filmtec supplies a wide range of multi-line payoffs, which use a common frame to support multiple payoff stations. These payoff stands are designed to accommodate the customer’s spool sizes and dereeling tensions. Various types drag torque methods can be provided including permanent magnet, magnetic particle and belt drag brakes.

Powered Payoff with Dancer

Powered payoffs are used when a process requires precise control of the dereeling tension. The vertical dancer provides the accumulation of wire and reduces wire breaks due to poorly spooled supply spools. This unit is typically used for high speed dereeling of fine wire.

Moveable Arm Payoffs

Moveable arm powered payoffs with dancer control of the dereeling speed are used on processes using large supply reels. The units utilize roll in loading with power screw lifting of the spool. Each clamping arm uses independent power screw drives to make loading easy. The units are entirely electric and feature a four-way joystick control of the arms.
